Biker killed after collision with trailer in Karachi’s Quaidabad: police – Pakistan

A young cyclist was killed while his cousin was injured when a trailer hit them in Quaidabad Early Thursday morning, according to Karachi Police.

The rules that restrict the movement of heavy vehicles were recently implemented in the metropolis amid the growing traffic accidents that involve Dumpers and Petroleros, and protest the death of citizens.

Earlier this month, the provincial government prohibited the entry of heavy vehicles into the city during the day, only allowing them to operate from 11 pm to 6 am, however, exemptions were granted to trucks that transport water, oil products, medications, meat and other essential goods. The Sindh government has also made it mandatory that all heavy vehicles in Karachi have a physical conditioning certificate amid the growing number of traffic accidents that involve Dumper trucks.

Regarding today’s accident, Malir Saeed Rind police superintendent said Dawn.com: “The victims were traveling on the motorcycle when the heavy vehicle hit them near Daud Chali. The wandering driver managed to escape from the place, leaving behind the trailer that was seized by the police. “

He added that the injured were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), where Shahbaz, 25, was declared dead while his cousin, Ali Haider, was admitted for treatment.

“The deceased originally came from Tando Mohammed Khan, where he took his coffin for burial. Family members told the Police that they would present a case after the funeral, ”added the police officer.

Separately, an unidentified man was killed in an incident of outrage at Main University Road, near Old Sabzi Mandi, today, according to a statement from the spokesman of the Edhi Foundation. He added that the body was taken to JPMC by legal formalities.

At the beginning of the week, in another accident that involved great traffic violating a ban on their movement during the day, an industrialist and his son died when a trailer hit his car, which fell from the ICI bridge to the ground on Monday afternoon.

Last week, two motorcyclists died and another was seriously injured in accidents involving heavy vehicles in the Karachi Sharea Faisal and National Highway Highway.

There was an alarming increase in traffic accidents in Karachi, since almost 500 people died, while 4,879 were injured in 2024 due to a series of reasons ranging from reckless driving to construction activities, etc., according to hospital data.
