Chicago – Former President Joe Biden used his first public comments since he left office in January to reprimand the Trump administration approach to Social Security, saying that his cuts were already endangering the institution for millions of deserving Americans.
In about half an hour of the comments on Tuesday before the defenders of the disability, Biden, often speaking in a subjected and silent tone, did not mention President Donald Trump by name, referring to him as “this type”, and stopped of the solid criticisms of the administration.
Biden pointed more widely to Trump’s mandate so far, saying that “in less than 100 days, this new administration has caused so much … damage and so much destruction. It is a bit impressive.”
“We cannot continue as a divided nation, as divided as we. As I said, I’ve been doing this for a long time. This has never been divided,” Biden said. “Granted, it is approximately 30%, but it is 30% that has no heart.”
It is not clear to which group the group of people was mentioned.
White House spokesman Steven Cheung abruptly criticized Biden, saying that his “incoherent speech” showed that he had a “weak mind” in a “rapid decrease to new minimums.”
“President Trump has repeatedly promised to protect Social Security and guarantee greater payment for older people at the end of the elderly by ending the taxes of the Social Security benefits. Anyone who says otherwise is stupid or a total liar, or both in the case of Biden,” said Cheung in a statement.
After his choice, Trump told NBC News that “we are not playing social security,” apart from making it more efficient. But since Trump assumed office, billionaire Elon Musk has reduced staff at the agency. Musk also caused an outbreak among Trump’s allies after he called Social Security “the largest Ponzi scheme of all time.”
Biden referred to the comment on Tuesday.
“We listen to others, empowered and emboldened by this administration, talk about Social Security; one of them called a Ponzi scheme,” Biden said. “A Ponzi scheme, what the hell are they talking about? People earn these benefits. They paid for that benefit. They trust that benefit. And nobody, nobody should take it away.”
Biden also referred to the Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, also without appointing it, painting it as separated from the average American. Biden cited comments Lutnick has made his mother -in -law complain if he did not receive his next Social Security check.
“The current Secretary of Commerce does not seem to obtain it, or based on his comments, he doesn’t even seem to matter,” said Biden. “He said that her 94-year-old mother-in-law would not complain. He wouldn’t bother her. She is probably a lovely woman. She is not a joke. She-e-are-of thewer is a billionaire. What happens to that 94-year-old mother who lives alone?
Despite a regular rotation of Trump’s verbal abuse, it was the first time Biden spoke publicly since he left the White House on January 20. But on Tuesday he did not offer a defense of himself or his own administration.
Sometimes, it was difficult to listen to Biden, so much that those in the room in the event remained still and calm when they heard him speak.
Shortly after the speech, Trump presented a publication about Truth Social, with a video trimmed by Biden during the speech, saying: “I had never seen, I had never seen almost black people in Scranton at that time, and it was only in the fourth grade. And I remember seeing the children pass, at that time, called color children, on a bus.”
In context, Trump left out, Biden continued to say that the fact that the bus went to a different school “caused his outrage” when he was a child and inspired him to get involved in politics.
Trump routinely punishes Biden, after calling him “the worst president in American history.” It often characterizes the possession of Biden as a disaster that its administration must now clean, particularly with respect to border security. In the first days of his second term, Trump repeatedly blamed the economic indicators lagging with Biden. Soon, however, they were Trumble’s own tariff policies that led to the stock market to disorder.
Biden spoke with a conference for defenders, counselors and representatives of the disabled at the Sofitel Hotel in the Magnificent Milla of Chicago. The meeting focused on strengthening Social Security at a time when the Trump administration has established its agency’s renewal in a way that fear beneficiaries could endanger them.
Last month, Biden spoke at a United Nations event for the national secondary school model, but the speech was not open to the members of the media.
Biden, 82, left the position deeply disagreed with his own party, which pressed him to leave his re -election offer following a devastating presidential debate against Trump in June, when they bid they sometimes fought to express a clear thought. The debacle aggravated long -standing concerns about his age and mental capacity.
The vice president of Biden, Kamala Harris, claimed the Democratic nomination and embarked on a twisting 107 -day campaign against Trump that destroyed the records of fundraising of funds, offering fleeting hope to the party. Finally, Harris lost to Trump, even in each of the six battlefield states, as well as in the popular vote.
In January, Biden said in an interview that he thought he could have defeated Trump if he had run again, but at the same time, he admitted in the USA Today’s interview that he was not sure that he could have fulfilled a complete term.
