Bangladesh’s interim government said on Saturday that he will release his list of democratic reviews on August 5, the first anniversary of the overthrow of the previous autocratic administration.
The Southern Asia Nation of around 170 million people has been in a political agitation since a revolt led by students expelled the then Minister of Primeraís Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024, ending its 15 -year rule.
Muhammad Yunus, the winner of the 85 -year -old Nobel Peace Prize who leads the caregiver’s government as the main advisor until the elections are held, said he inherited a “completely broken down” public administration system.
Yunus previously promised to present a “great package” to review democratic institutions.
But the efforts to reach the agreements have made slow progress as political parties are push for power before elections, scheduled for early 2026.
The Yunus government warned that the struggles against political power are at danger of endangering the profits that have been achieved.
On July 29, Yunus said he was working to “build a broad national consensus around a renewed political system, one that offers inclusive, participatory and credible elections.”
Yunus’s office said on Saturday that “Julio’s proclamation” would be “presented to La Nación … in the presence of all the political parties involved in the massive uprising.”
The Hasina government saw generalized abuses in human rights, including mass detention and extrajudicial murders of their political opponents.
His government was also accused of politicizing courts and civil service, organizing unpleasant elections and dismantling democratic controls about their power.
Hasina, 77, fled to India, where he challenged judicial orders to attend his current trial for charges equivalent to crimes against humanity.
The protests began on July 1, 2024, with university students asking for reforms to a quota system for public sector work.
They culminated on August 5, 2024, when thousands of protesters broke into the Hasina Palace while escaping by helicopter.
