A court in Bangladesh listened on Monday presented by the anti -corruption organization against former leader Sheikh Hasina and his family, including his daughter who has served as a senior UN official.
Three officials of the Anti -Corruption Commission (ACC) read testimonies in three separate cases on an alleged hoarding of lucrative plots in a suburb of the Dhaka capital.
Hasina, 77, fled Bangladesh by helicopter on August 5, 2024, after weeks of protests led by students against their autocratic government.
She has challenged the orders to return from India, even to attend her separate and ongoing judgment by charges that amount to crimes against humanity, for the deadly repression of the lifting.
Hasina has been appointed in six cases of corruption, along with her son Sajeb based in the United States.
“If he declares himself guilty, Sheikh Hasina, his son Sajeb Wazed Joy, and Saima Wazed could face up to 14 years in prison,” said Accuma’s lawyer Khan Mohammad Mainul Hossain AFP.
Wazed is on WHO permission and a new official has assumed a position as a “officer in charge.”
In total, six cases of alleged corruption related to Hasina have been presented. Among those named in other cases, some scheduled to be heard later in August are Hasina’s sister, Sheikh Rehana, and her children, including British legislator Tulip Siddiq.
Tulip Siddiq resigned as the anti -corruption minister of the United Kingdom government in January, denying any irregularity after being appointed in multiple probes in Bangladesh. Siddiq’s lawyers have said that the accusations against them are false.
