B.C. winner of record $80M lottery jackpot quits job, vows to give back to community

The winner of what BC Lottery Corp. is calling the biggest prize that has been awarded to a single person in Canada says that winning the $ 80 million prize is “that life changes.”

Justin Surrey, BC, defended the tear of joy at a press conference on Thursday, saying that he already renounced his work in a logistics company and is thinking of buying a “dream house” by Metro Vancouver as his first purchase.

“I just presented my resignation through an email, just an hour, two hours before having this press conference,” said Simporios. “I’m working with [a] Good operations team, my boss. They are all great. “

He said he just wanted to make sure his boss and his co -workers knew he wanted to “get away.”

“Simply giving them a notice, I will not come back,” he said, adding that they were happy for him.

The BC Lottery Corp. said it is the greatest fat prize won in the province, as well as the largest individual victory in Canada.

Simporios, who is married and has a daughter, said he discovered that he had won the Lotto Max draw on May 9 around 10:30 pm that night, when he heard that the award -winning ticket had sold in Surrey.

He said he joked with his wife that the family had become millionaires before verifying their ticket.

“I was angry,” Simporios said. “She said: ‘Can you stop that joke right now because your daughter is sleeping’?”

Then, Simporios said to sit on his bed with a flashlight, tracking the winning numbers while trying to avoid waking his daughter, then realized that he had won.

“I screamed. I cried. The lights came out. My wife was angry again,” he said as he laughed.

BC Man wins $ 80 million in the victory of the largest Canadian lottery

Justin Surrey, BC, has won a major Max Lotto prize of $ 80 million, the largest lottery prize ever won on BC and also the main prize ever won by a single individual in Canada.

Simporios said that his priority is to give back to the community, pay the debt of his sister’s medical school and help his mother retire early.

“I’ve been fighting,” he said. “I am a father. Full time work. I have a daughter. I want to go home. I want to spend time with them, but as a father, you want to balance it. Should I work? Or should I spend time with my daughter and not have food?

“With this amount of money, I can spend more time with my daughter, with my wife, with my family. It’s amazing, man. Just thanks. I feel blessed right now.”

As for the first item that plans to buy with money, Simporios did not hesitate.

“We are going to sit with our financial advisor immediately,” he said. “But once that meeting is held, it is always a dream house.”
