A man with a violent criminal record that escaped a BC prison three years ago was arrested in Qatar, according to RCMP.
Rabih Alkhalil was arrested in Qatar this month while living under an alias, CPL. Sarbjit Sangha with the Special Application Unit of Combined Forces of BC confirmed in a press release on Thursday. The police did not provide the exact date of the arrest.
The 38 -year -old has an extensive criminal record and was convicted in a murder of Toronto 2012, as well as a murder in Vancouver that same year, and was a member of the list of more search in Canada after the escape.
Alkhalil, originally from Montreal, was arrested at the North Fraser Property Center in Port Coquitlam, BC, for murder charges when he escaped on July 21, 2022.
According to RCMP, the international search for three -year -old Alchalil involved the federal region of Federal Pacific of the RCMP and the Qatar Ministry of Interior. Sangha said that Qatar authorities played a “critical” role, providing rapid and decisive actions that led to the arrest.
The RCMP on Monday announced charges against three men who allegedly helped BC Fugitive Rabih (Robby) Alkhalil to escape a Port Coquitlam prison in 2022. Akhalil, 38, is originally from Montreal and has not been located since its escape. Correction (September 8, 2025): an earlier version of this video declared that three men had been arrested in relation to the escape of Rabih Alkhalil of the prison. In fact, two of them have been arrested and one third remained in general at the time of publication.
The authorities say that the work is now underway with Interpol and other agencies so that Alkhalil returns to Canada.
In July 2022, two men who go through contractors who are driving a white Economy truck helped Alkhalil out of the center prior to the trial while waiting for a judgment for murder.
Later that same year, the Bolo program, which represents “being in the first glance,” Alkhalil moved to the top of his list of 25 most vantos fugitives in Canada.
At a press conference earlier this month, RCMP had said that the video images released from the prison holidays helped the officers identify the men who allegedly helped Alkhalil’s escape.
Edward Ayoub, 48, and John Potvin, 49, both from Ottawa, and Ryan Van Gool, 46, of Harrison Hot Springs, BC, have been accused of conspiracy to commit violations in prison and rape in prison.
Earlier this year, Potvin was arrested in Spain, according to the Police Unit against Gang of BC.
Max Langlois, executive director of the Bolo program, described the arrest of Alkhalil “The end of one of the most complex fugitive investigations that Bolo has seen since its creation.”
