A passenger went overboard on a BC Ferries ship to the island of Vancouver from Metro Vancouver on Wednesday.
BC Ferries said it happened at 1 PM sailing from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, shortly after the spirit of the Vancouver island, he had abandoned the terminal.
Another ferry, the queen of New Westminster, helped with rescue efforts.
The Ferry authority said the individual was finally recovered by the crew and was in stable condition.
The reason why the person went overboard was not shared, but Ferry’s authority said the paramedics transported them to the hospital.
Passenger Jared Fitschen witnessed the rescue, and estimated that it took between 20 and 30 minutes.
“Maybe 10 to 15 minutes after we depart from Vancouver’s side, we listen to three almost mono sounds on the intercom, followed by a recording that said: ‘Man by Borda, man forboard’,” he told CBC News.
“I think most people thought it was just an exercise because we don’t feel that there is no way that there is a man inboard,” he added. “But then we hear that the engine began to decrease, and we began to see the crew running from one side outside.”

Fitschen said it was definitely shocking, and it was the first time that I had seen a rescue in a BC Ferries container, having taken them for decades at least four or five times a year.
“It’s surprising to really see how fast they reacted,” he said.
“From the moment … the whole ferry stopped, [to] The moment we really turn the boat, it is quite impressive. “
Fitschen praised Wednesday by the crew and rescuers, saying that it seemed that the situation was very controlled and well managed.
A BC Ferries spokesman said he acknowledged how distressing the rescue must have been for those on board, and thanked the passengers for their patience and understanding.
They said they anticipated approximately one hour of delay in the Tsawwassen route to Swartz Bay as a result.
