Azerbaijani president phones PM Shehbaz, appreciates Pakistan’s support on Karabakh issue – Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday night received a phone call from the president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, who expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s constant support on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, said a statement from the prime minister’s office.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed an initial peace agreement negotiated in the US. During a meeting with President Donald Trump on Friday, an agreement destined to boost economic ties between the two countries after decades of conflict, said the White House.

The Prime Minister on Saturday praised the peace efforts of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, after his role in the negotiation of the Armenian-Azerbaijan peace agreement, congratulating both countries for “drawing a course for a Pacific future for his region” and declare: “Pakistan has always been the nation of Azerbaiya and we are with them in this proud moment of their history.”

In an X post, Prime Minister Shehbaz said he had a phone call with Aliyev, where he transmitted Happy Warm to him and the people of Azerbaijan in the Peace Agreement.

“He praised him for his vision and stay, and deeply appreciated President Donald Trump, who played the role of peace Maker to facilitate this historical agreement,” the prime minister wrote.

During today’s telephone call, Prime Minister Shehbaz offered his warm congratulations to Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan about the historical peace agreement and praised Trump’s role in the peace process.

“During his warm and cordial telephone conversation, the prime minister praised the visionary role of President Ilham Aliyev to bring the three decades conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia to a peaceful and mutually beneficial purpose, especially because it would mark the beginning of a new era of prosperity for the Caucasus,” said the statement.

“The prime minister particularly appreciated the role played by US President Donald Trump to facilitate this historical agreement that would now bring peace and prosperity to the region.

“President Aliyev expressed a deep appreciation for Pakistan’s long and constant support for Azerbaijan on the issue of Karabakh,” the statement added.

“The prime minister replied that it has always been a duty of duty for the people of Pakistan to extend their support to their Azerbaiy brothers and sisters on this central theme and it was encouraging to observe that, under the bold leadership and statesman of President Aliyev, La Paz had finally established himself in this region.”

Aliyev told Prime Minister Shehbaz that peaceful development in the region would create new opportunities for better connectivity between Pakistan and Central Asia. The statement said that both leaders also expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of their bilateral cooperation.

“While remembered his recent interactions in Lachin and Khankendi, the prime minister reiterated his invitation to President Aliyev to make an official visit to Pakistan soon,” the statement added. “It is also expected that both leaders meet in Tianjin on the banks of the next SCO Summit (Shanghai Cooperation Organization).”

Armenia and Azerbaijan had disagreed since the late 1980s, when Nagorno-Karabakh, a mountainous region of Azerbaijan that had an ethnic armenian population, separated from Azerbaijan with the support of Armenia.

Baku and Ereván fought two wars to control the Armenian region of Azerbaijan of Nagorno Karabakh, at the end of the Soviet Union and again in 2020, before Azerbaiyan confissed the entire area in a 24 -hour offensive in September 2023.
