A gynecologist born in Winnipeg and the best selling author says that she has had enough with the United States, but is also prescribing a firm warning for Canadian voters concerned about the future of her own reproductive health care.
Dr. Jen Gunter, whose books include The Bible of the Vagina and THE MANOPAUSIA MANIFESTOFor a long time, he has been a women’s health lawyer, working to dissipate the myths around the health and sexual organisms of women, and combat wrong online information.
She has lived in the United States for three decades, but now she says she will move to Canada.
While that was always part of the plan, Gunter says that his decision was accelerated by the return of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to the Oval office earlier this year.
“The absolute simply delayed medical care, you know, it’s day after day [that] We are listening to a new horror about the programs that are being cut, “said Gunter, who plans to live in British Columbia, CBC News in a Thursday interview from Los Angeles.
“It was predictable, but it is still a bit horrible to see in real time.”
Ginter, who currently lives in California after spending time previously in Kansas, also said he feels that he needs to leave Trump’s America, since abortion restrictions intensify and put lives at risk.
“I left Kansas because when I was practicing there, they changed the law and we could not help the people who were basically, you know, die, get sick and needed abortions,” he said.
“I have been seeing this type of erosion and erosion [of reproductive rights]”
Ginter calls access to a canary in a coal mine, describing it as a way for governments to marginalize and control half of the population.
“I would tell all Canadians who are listening to this: they should be looking for the voting records of those who vote in the next elections and see how the bills related to reproductive rights have voted,” he said.
“If they voted to eliminate their reproductive rights, they will also vote to remove other rights.”
Greater interest in Canada of US documents
According to the president of the Canadian Medicine Association, Dr. Joss Reimer, who registered online, there has been a sharp increase in line to learn more about the practice of northern the border. Politicians urged to act fast To facilitate that doctors from us move and work in Canada.
“We have seen cuts from their research funds. We have seen reliable sources of information such as the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] Having his controlled and manipulated websites by the government, “said Reimer, a Winnipeg doctor who was previously the medical leader of the Covid-19 Vaccine Task Force of Manitoba, to CBC News on Thursday.
“We have also seen that their data sets are altered in a way that makes it difficult for us to trust the numbers that come out of their follow -up.”
Although family doctors in the United States earn more than those in other countries, Reimer said that sometimes it is not enough to keep them close.
The provinces and territories that can offer less paperwork, more access to research and a more supportive environment for US doctors. UU will have more capacity to attract them, said Reimer.
“That weighs a lot when someone is thinking where they want to work.”
Canada needs to accelerate immigration routes for American doctors interested in moving, while the provinces solve license problems, Reimer said. However, he added that competitive and support work environments are also crucial to keep doctors in Canada.
Gunter says he would like to see a more permanent solution to relieve license barriers for doctors who move interprovincially.
“It makes no sense that you must re -apply [for licensure] between different provinces. I really feel that there should be a national license. “
He is not sure if he will practice again in Canada, but knows that he wants to bring his abilities to return to his country of origin and make a difference.
“I really want to take all these 40 years of knowledge and say: ‘These are some empty, I would like to help them fill them,” he said.
