The administration of the city of Karachi issued a brochure today that describes the drainage of the movement of water and traffic in several markets, underground steps and roads, stating that rainwater has been drained from most city markets, including Jodya Bazaar, Allah Wali Market and Jamia Tape Market.
“More than four underground water steps have been cleaned and opened for traffic,” said the brochure.
According to the brochure, all the attached commissioners were working to drain the rainwater of the underground steps and the roads and improve the traffic flow, with attending commissioners present in the field and collaborating with the relevant departments to solve problems.
The Karachi commissioner, Syed Hassan Naqvi, was summoned by saying that all departments were working together with the “strong coordination and cooperation.”
The brochure declared that the drainage work had been completed in the underground passage of Nazimabad, Tariq Road’s underground passage, the underground pass of Golimar and the underground step of Sohrab Goth, with the four open passages for traffic.
NiPA and the old Sabzi Mandi highway, from the Civic Center to Mazar-I-Quaid, also opened for traffic. However, the commissioner has asked citizens to avoid the use of the road due to traffic congestion caused by a wastewater problem.
“Traffic normally flows in Sharea Faisal and Jam Sadiq Bridge, where drainage work was previously completed and vehicular traffic was allowed,” said the commissioner.
In addition, the Korangi and EBM Causeway road, which closed due to the flood, opened for traffic after complete drainage.
The work progressed quickly in the underground passage of Road Road and the Gothic underground step of Sohrab, where pumps have been installed.
