At least 8 injured as customer rams into CarMax store in California


At least eight people were injured when a customer got into a Carmax store in Inglewood, California, Saturday afternoon, according to the Inglewood Police Department. The incident is being investigated as an intentional act.

The police were sent to the store in the 8600 block of S. The Boulevard Cienega around 2:03 pm local time, after a customer left the building, entered a vehicle and led to the business, police said, and added that a “commercial dispute” may have been the reason for the driver.

The video of the shock that circulates on social networks shows a Subaru silver that backs into the business through a door before turning and driving through another door.

Eight people were injured as a result of the accident, including two that were seriously injured and taken to hospitals in the area, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

In a statement, Carmax said the suspect was a customer who “evaluated his vehicle.”

In a separate statement, the company said that two of its employees and “several clients” were injured. The employees were treated in a hospital for injuries that are not enhanceable, he said, adding that injured customers were also hospitalized.

“The security of our associates, community and clients is our top priority,” said Carmax. “We are deeply sad for this event and our hearts are with all the impacted.”

The company said it has “a current action plan” and that it is “working with the authorities in the investigation.”

Police said the driver, whom they have not identified, left the store after the accident and delivered to the Los Angeles Police Department at a Police Academy in Manchester Avenue. He was arrested and is being arrested.

The suspect faces multiple counts, including the assault with a mortal weapon. Inglewood Police have not responded to a comment request.
