At least seven people were injured on Thursday after a fire in a factory in the export processing zone of Karachi (Kepz) near Landhi caused part of a collapse building, authorities said, since rescue efforts were underway.
Fire incidents are common in the metropolis due to the absence of adequate fire safety measures in buildings.
“The injured were taken to a nearby hospital through the Embulance of Edhi,” said Rescue 1122 in a statement. “The fire, which began in a clothing factory near Kepz, is still burning with intense rescue efforts to stop it.”
At least four ambulances, six trucks from the Fire Brigade and a snorkeling arrived at the site of the incident along with the Fire and Rescue teams upon receiving information from the incident, said the 1122 rescue.
Greater research on the incident is being carried out.
A massive fire that exploded in a factory in Kepz in June was controlled after 36 hours. The fire destroyed three factories completely and left five people injured, including four firefighters who suffered burns and injuries for debris that fall, officials said.
A similar incident took place in April. No victims were reported, but four people, including a firefighter, were affected by smoke inhalation, while 12 fire tenders worked for four hours to control the fire.
