The monsoon rains in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have claimed the lives of five people, four of them children, and injured five others in the last 24 hours, according to the report of a provincial disaster management authority of KP.
Heavy rains continue to open parts of KP while staggering catastrophic floods that devastated the province earlier this month, leaving 406 dead in their path.
On August 30, the provincial capital Peshawar received 41 millimeters of rain, while heavy rains in the collection areas in the Khyber district also increased the Budni and other Nullahs, immersing low areas along Warsak Road, Town Safia, Regi Model Town and Nasir Bagh, according to the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD).
According to the KP PDMA report, as a result of the rain, “two were reported dead in Peshawar, both children, including a child who was swept by a sudden flood and another three -month -old baby that died as a result of an incident of collapse of the ceiling.”
Five people suffered incidents in separate infrastructure collapse.
Meanwhile, heavy rains in the high southern Waziristan were charged with the lives of three people from the same family after the roof of his house collapsed. The dead include two children and a woman.
According to the PDMA report, a total of six houses have been damaged due to rain and urban floods, including three that were completely destroyed.
In a statement, the PDMA spokesman said: “PDMA has ordered the respective district administrations to intensify the help efforts and guarantee timely assistance for victims.”
“The PDMA emergency operation center is fully functional,” added the spokesman, urging people to contact the PDMA help line in 1700 in case of emergency or climate updates.
According to the PMD, Cherat received 165 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, while Kakul received 54 mm, Peshawar 41 mm, Balakot 14 mm, Malam Jabba 10mm, Bannu 5 mm and Dera Ismail Khan 4 mm.
The latest data from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) showed that at least 853 people have died and more than 1,000 have been injured in rain -related incidents and sudden floods since the beginning of the monsoon season of June 25.
The monsoon rains, which fall throughout the region from June to September of each year, continue to open many parts of the country. From the end of June, monsoon rains have wreaked havoc throughout the country in the last month by triggering mortal floods, landslides and displacements, particularly in vulnerable areas, poorly drained or densely populated.
