At least four people were injured on Tuesday when an explosion, allegedly caused by a gas cylinder, occurred on the premises of the National University of Modern Languages (Numl) in Islamabad, according to police.
Islamabad police spokesman Jawad Taqi said Sunrise that a gas leak caused the explosion.
“Four people were injured and taken to hospital,” he said. “Firefighters have extinguished the fire,” the spokesman said.
Footage from the varsity showed panicked students evacuating the campus as emergency and rescue personnel attempted to extinguish the fire in one of the rooms at the facility.
Bystanders could also be seen running to help an injured person lying on the ground.
In 2002, the National Institute of Modern Languages was upgraded to a university. It offers many courses from undergraduate to doctoral level.
