The Houston Astros pitcher Lance Mcullers Jr. says he is receiving death threats addressed to himself and his children after Saturday’s defeat against the Cincinnati Reds.
McCullers, who says he became a white -harassment harassment of baseball after he allowed seven races during a first entry of 10 races, told journalists after the game that people have been sending him threats about his performance, and some imply that they would seek to harm their two young daughters.
“I understand that people are very passionate and people love stars and love sports, but threatening to find my children and kill them is a bit difficult to deal with as a father, I think,” McCullers said.
McCullers, 31, had recently returned to the field for his second start of the major leagues after missing the last two MLB seasons to recover from the injuries in his launch arm.
Saturday’s defeat by 13-9 at the Daikin Park in Houston was his second MLB game and the first 2025 house game, scoring his return after the last release in game 3 of the 2022 World Series.
“There have been many, many threats throughout the years they addressed, mainly,” McCullers said. “But I think that bringing children to the equation, threatening to find them, or the next time they see us in public, they will stab my children, things like that, it is difficult to listen as a father.”
At a press conference after the game on Saturday night, the manager of the Astros, Joe Espada, expressed his frustration for death threats, noting that he was “really annoying” when he heard about them.
“It is very unfortunate that we have to deal with this,” said sword emphatically. “After all, he has done for this city, for this team, the fact that we have to talk about that in my office: I also have children, and it really drives me crazy that we have to deal with this. Very sad. Very, very sad.”
Sword added that McCullers had not launched in two and a half years, and that fans must remember that they may need some time to adapt.
“Come on, we are better than that,” he said. “We are better than this.”
