ASEEFA Bhutto-Zardari of PPP, the first lady and member of the National Assembly, said Wednesday that the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) was the “most effective way” of distributing help to those affected by floods, and added that it would be “irresponsible” not to use it.
His statement comes a day after Punjab Minister of Information, Azma Bokhari, said the provincial government would issue help cards to flood victims in their personal names using their own resources instead of using BISP to help them. During the last month, the PPP has repeatedly urged the center to disburse stipends among displaced citizens through the “efficient and proven” bisp.
In an X publication, ASEEFA said that more than four million people had been affected by the “unprecedented floods” in Punjab. She described the BISP as the “faster and more effective” way to distribute help to those affected.
“Not using one of the key organizations of the State, which has both the data and the ability to provide assistance, would be irresponsible,” he said.
In recent weeks, the president and high -level leaders of the PPP have encouraged the use of the initiative to support flagship to provide relief to thousands of citizens affected by the floods of the Monzón.
The vice president of PPP, Sherry Rehman, had a “strongly and repeatedly” lawyer for the use of BISP for the purpose at a meeting of the Senate Committee.
At yesterday’s press conference, Azma Bukhari had said that relief cards would ensure that the aid reaches the right people, and added that the government was focused on “serving, not politicizing” the problem.
The minister, taking a mockery for the insistence of PPP for the use of Bisp, commented: “Should we take advice from those who have turned Sindh into archaeological ruins?”
At present, the Punjab government has announced a compensation package for families affected by floods, which includes RS20,000 per acre for crop loss, RS1 million for completely destroyed housing, RS500,000 for partially damaged housing and 500,000 for the loss of cattle.
On September 18, the leader of PML-N and the assistant of Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah had ruled out the use of Bisp to help people affected by floods, calling it unfeasible for a government with liquidity problems. Rana healthy said that the BISP could not continue in its current form: it was necessary to wrap or be completely renewed.
