A year ago until the day, Arshad Nadeem surprised the world with a monstrous javelin launch that drove him to global stardom and saved the sports glory of the fall of Pakistan with his first individual gold medal in the Olympic Games of Paris 2024.
The javelin star sweetened the deal when its launch of 92.97m destroyed the Olympic record, not once, but twice, to delight a roaring crowd in the Stade of France in Paris.
But a year after the historical triumph, Arshad undergoes physiotherapy in London after surgery in his calf muscle.
The next two championships of the Diamond League that would compete this month have been eliminated from their sports calendar while recovering in time for the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo in September.
But there is no disappointment of Arshad or his coach Salman Butt, who works as his mentor, manager and much more.
“Things look good for Tokyo,” he said Dawn.com In a call from London. “We hope to achieve a lot there.”
A gold medal in the World Championship will complete its triumph after its gold at the Paris Olympic Games and the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Arshad made this year’s international debut when he won the gold with a shot of 86.40 m in the Asian Athletics Championship in Gumi, South Korea, in May.
Butt acknowledged that scratched competitions are not ideal, and the goal was to compete at least four or five times ahead of the world championship.
“The point is that sports and injury go together.
He emphasized the importance of rectifying recurring injury when they flew to Cambridge and underwent surgery in six days.
Contrary to any fatality and gloom, Arshad is now free of pain and is at full speed with his training in London while concluding his latest physiotherapy sessions.
He will return to Pakistan soon, where he will continue training during the next six weeks before heading to Tokyo in an attempt to make history once more.
