A 22 -year -old Rotc cadet died during training in Kentucky last week, authorities said.
Neil Edara de Ridgewood, New Jersey, died after he did not respond during land navigation training in Fort Knox on Thursday, said the Cadet of the Army in a statement on Saturday.
He attended Cadet Summer Training as part of the ninth regiment, advanced Camp, said the command. He received medical attention on the scene before being taken by helicopter to the Hospital of the University of Louisville, where he was declared dead, he said.
The command said Edara was in the land navigation site of the installation, which is used to teach cadets how to determine locations and distances for travel and guidance.
The high temperatures in the Fort Knox area have been in the 90s low in recent days, according to data from the National Meteorological Service.
The weather service issued an urgent weather message on Sunday to extend a heat notice for the region until Wednesday night. “Bad temperatures and high humidity can cause heat diseases,” the message warned.
The press release announcing the death of Edara did not mention the heat wave that grabbed a large part of the south and the west medium, and what caused his death is under investigation.
“The safety of the cadets and the paintings remains the main priority of the Cadet Command of the US Army. Uu. As the training continues,” the command said in his statement.
The command said Edara joined ROTC at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 2021.
Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Sorensen, a professor at Military Science Rutgers, said Edara had the heart of a leader.
“The Edara Cadet was one of the most dedicated and promising young leaders that I have had the privilege of knowing,” he said in the command statement. “His quiet behavior collected and his unwavering commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on all those around him.”
