Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on Saturday on Saturday hosted the peace efforts of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, after his role in the negotiation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement.
A day before, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed an initial American negotiation agreement during a meeting with Trump, an agreement aimed at promoting economic ties between the two countries after decades of conflict.
“Pakistan welcomes the historic peace agreement signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia at the White House Summit under the auspices of US President Donald J Trump,” the prime minister wrote in a statement on X.
He congratulated both countries for “drawing a course for a peaceful future for their region,” stating: “Pakistan has always been with the fraternal nation of Azerbaijan and we are with them in this proud moment in their history.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz continued: “We also appreciate the facilitation role of the United States, under President Donald Trump, by gathering both parties and ensuring an agreement that opens new ways for trade, regional connectivity and integration.”
“We hope that this spirit of dialogue serves as an example for other regions that face prolonged conflicts,” he added.
He also said that development marks the “dawn of a new era of peace, stability and cooperation in the South Caucasus”, which has supported “human conflict and suffering” for decades.
The vice representative and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, also appreciated Trump’s role in “facilitating this progress” and congratulated the president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov.
In a publication about X, he wrote: “Today marks a truly historical moment, since Azerbaijan and Armenia take a decisive step to resolve a bitter conflict that has lasted more than three decades.
“That this milestone allane the way in the Caucasus for a future free of the painful shadows of the past, and one built on peace, stability and hope,” he added.

Separate, Trump said both countries were committing to stop the entire fighting forever, open trade, trips and diplomatic relations, and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of others, “while talking with journalists along with Aliyev and Armenian Phol Pashinyan of Azerbaiyan.
Trump said the United States signed separate agreements with each country to expand cooperation in energy, commerce and technology, including artificial intelligence. The details were not launched.
Both leaders praised Trump for helping to put an end to the conflict and said they would name him for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Trump has tried to present himself as a global pacifier in the first months of his second term. The White House attributes a high fire between Cambodia and Thailand and sealing peace agreements between India and Pakistan, and Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
After the announcement, Trump declared: “As president, my highest aspiration is to bring peace and stability to the world.”

Trump has repeatedly stated, in contrast to the position of India, that the intervention of the United States prevented a “bad nuclear war” between India and Pakistan after its most intense military confrontation in decades.
The tensions between the two countries intensified after the attack of the pahalgama in busy Kashmir, which saw the murder of 26 tourists.
