Applications open for Canada’s new disability benefit program

The new disability benefit of Canada, a program that provides eligible people with up to $ 200 a month, is now open for applications.

The program is available for people with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 64 who have already been approved for the tax for disability. The government says that payments will begin in July.

Payments are intended to complement provincial and territorial programs, and the Minister of Jobs, Patty Hajdu, said that all provinces and territories, except Alberta, have committed to not recover their own benefits.

The benefit was part of the promise of the Liberal Government of Trudeau to help get people with disabilities of poverty.

Many defenders of people with disabilities have reduced the benefit, saying that it will little to address poverty.

Hajdu, whose new portfolio covers disabilities, said he has heard that criticism.

“I don’t think disability [benefit] It is what a person needs to hold, and I don’t think he has been designed in that way, “he said in a recent interview.

“But it is a payment that allows a more complete autonomy of people with disabilities, since it is not aimed at anything specific. It is a benefit that people can use to complement any other gain or income they have.”

As part of the program, the Government is providing funds to community organizations to help people who may need guidance to request tax credit or the benefit program.
