Thousands of people descended at the Washington National Shopping Center on Saturday and other cities in the United States in opposition to Donald Trump’s policies, in the greatest protests since he returned to the presidency.
A great “hands out!” Banner extended on the stage of an outdoor theater to just a few blocks from the White House, with protests holding signs that said “No my president!”, “Fascism has come”, “Stop Evil” and “Delivery of our Social Security”.
Jane Ellen Saums, 66, said she was dismayed when she saw the Trump administration dismantling the long -standing democratic institutions of the United States.
“It is extremely worrying to see what is happening to our government, and all the checks and balances that have been implemented that they are being fully attacked, from the environment to personal rights,” said the real estate worker who presented himself in the protest dressed as Mother Nature, wrapped in Ivy and holding a globe.
At one point to disseminate the global resentment against the Republican president, the demonstrations previously took place in international capitals, including Paris, Rome and London.
An American lazy coalition of dozens of left groups such as Moveon and the march of women organized “hands outside” events in more than 1,000 towns and cities and in each district of the Congress, according to groups.
The unifying theme: the growing resentment of what the indivisible group has called “the most shameless power in modern history”, directed by Trump, his advisor Elon Musk “and his multimillion -dollar friends.”
Trump has angry many Americans by moving aggressively to reduce the size of the government, impose their conservative values and press abruptly even to friendly countries for commercial terms, which makes securities markets tanks.
“Trump, the musk and its multimillionaire budins are orchestrating a total assault on our government, our economy and our basic rights, enabled by Congress in each step of the road,” he said indivisible on his website.
Many Democrats are furious because their party, in the minority both in the House of Representatives and in the Senate, has seemed so helpless to resist Trump’s aggressive movements.
Sleeping giant woke up?
More than 5,000 people gathered only a few blocks from the White House at noon of the local time at the National Mall in Washington, with prominent Democrats, including representative Jamie Rankin to speak.
“They have awakened a sleeping giant, and they have not seen anything yet,” said activist Graylan Hagler, 71, to the multitude of meetings. “We will not sit, we will not be silent and we will not leave.”
Separately, a march for Palestine was scheduled in Washington at the same time.
Saturday’s demonstrations could offer a temperature reading of how hot are the feelings of voters.
A protest of women’s march shortly after Trump’s first choice in 2016 attracted an estimate of half a million people to Washington; The early estimates for Saturday participation have been much smaller.
As Trump continues to shake things aggressively in Washington and beyond, his approval index has fallen to the lowest since he assumed office, according to recent surveys.
But despite the rejection worldwide to its wide imposition of tariffs, and the bubble resentment of many Americans, the White House has dismissed the protests and the Republican president has not given any sign of giving in.
“My policies will never change,” he said on Friday.
