Islamabad: The outgoing president of the Bar Association of the Superior Court of Islamabad (IHCBA), Riasat Ali Azad, has challenged the recent transfer of judges of other courts superior to the Superior Court of Islamabad (IHC).
In a constitutional request presented in the Supreme Court on Friday, Azad also challenged the seniority list reviewed after transfers.
Earlier this week, five IHC judges had requested the Superior Court against recent changes to the Superior Court after the transfer of new judges from different provinces.
The friction between the IHC judges began earlier this month when the judge of the Superior Court of Lahore, Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, the judge of Sindh Superior Court Khadim Hussain Soomro and the judge of the Superior Court of Baluchistan, Muhammad Asif, were transferred to the IHC.
Revised seniority list of the president of IHCBA; The movement destined to undermine the autonomy of the court says
The legal fraternity protested the move and accused the government of undermining the independence of the court.
What most bothered the judges and lawyers of the Superior Court in Semunt was the controversial review of the court of the court, which saw the judge to become the senior judge of Puisne instead of Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani.
Subsequently, Judge Dogar was appointed president of the Interim Supreme Court after the owner, Judge Aamer Faooq, was elevated to the Supreme Court.
There was also a wave of changes in the IHC administrative system, with judges sitting replaced by new judges.
In the Administrative Committee of the Court, Judges Kayani and Miangul Hassan Aurengzeb were replaced by Dogar and Soomro judges.
The Departmental Promotion Committee was also reorganized to replace Judges Kayani and Aurengzeb with Judges Dogar and Azam Khan, who was appointed for the IHC in January.
