Srinagar: The Interior Minister of the Union, Amit Shah, will visit J & K next week, the main minister Omar Abdullah announced on Monday. This will be Shah’s first trip to the territory of the Union from the elections of last year’s assembly in which the Omar National Conference (NC) won a landslide.
However, the CM insisted that Shah’s trip should not be linked to the ongoing operations in Katua, where the forces are fighting terrorists. “It does not only have a security agenda. Although it will review security, people will be directed in Jammu. In Srinagar, will review and open some development projects,” Omar said.
Between December 2024 and February this year, Shah held five security review meetings in J&K in New Delhi. “He (Shah) came here before and will come after this visit too. We are in contact with him. Last year, we look for more funds and assistance from him, which the center provided,” Omar said, waiting for the support to continue.
In previous years, the CM recalled that the ministers of origin in the center had regularly traveled to J&K. “When J & K was a complete state and I was his prime minister, there were several visits of ministers of origin,” Omar said, citing P Chidambaram and Sushilkumar Shinde of the UPA government as examples.
