All India Muslim Law Board (AIMPLB) announced on Sunday a agitation nationwide Against the proposed WAQF amendment bill.
A statement issued by Mohd Vaquar Uddin Latifi, secretary of the Office of (AIMPLB) said: “After a massive and successful protest in Delhi on March 17, the Muslim Personal Law Board of All India (AIMPLB) has announced a national agitation against the proposed WAQF amendment bill.
SQR Ilyas, spokesman for AIMPLB and coordinator of the Action Committee against the WAQF bill, expressed their gratitude on behalf of the Board to all Muslim organizations, civil society groups and leaders of Dalit, Adivasi, OBC and other minority communities.
“Without the grace of Allah and the united support of these groups, the success of Delhi’s demonstration would not have been possible,” he said. It also extended thanks to the opposition parties and members of Parliament that not only participated in large quantities, but also firmly rejected the proposed legislation.
The statement declared that the AIMPLB members’ action committee has resolved to adopt all constitutional, legal and democratic means to “oppose” what has been called a “controversial, discriminatory and harmful” bill. “As part of the first phase of agitation, large protest sites have been planned in front of state assemblies in Patna on March 26 and Vijayawada on March 29”
He said that the main leadership of AIMPLB, together with representatives of religious and social organizations nationwide, will participate in these demonstrations. “Civil society leaders, prominent personalities from other minority communities and key figures of the Dalit, Adivasi and OBC sections have also confirmed their participation.”
“Despite the issuance of whips by several political parties that require parliamentarians to attend the ongoing Parliament session, invitations to the members of the opposition of the joint parliamentary committee (JPC) have been extended to attend the sitting,” the statement said.
“In Patna, the leaders of JD (U), RJD, the Congress and the Lok Janshakti party, including the main minister of Bihar, have been invited. Similarly, in Andhra Pradesh, invitations have been sent to the ruler Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The YSR Congress, the Congress and the Left parties,” according to the statement.
Ilyas said that the “purpose of these protests is to send a clear message” to the partners of the BJP Alliance: “Ofraje support for the bill or the risk of losing our support.”
The statement added that the Board has prepared an agitation plan at the detailed national level under which the protest will be organized in all state capitals. “Great demonstrations are being programmed in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Malekotla (Punjab) and Ranchi. The campaign will include manifestations of sitations, human chains and social media campaigns, especially Hashtag’s impulses in X (previously Twitter), said the AIMPLB.
Public conferences, seminars, symposia and dharns will be organized at the district level, and the memoranda will be presented to the president of India through district magistrates, the statement added.
