Carlos Alcaraz surpassed Novak Djokovic in Sets run on Friday to establish a successful final confrontation of the US Open against the world number one and defending champion Jannik Sinner.
The second Spanish seed Alcaraz produced a roughly efficient exhibition to end Djokovic’s last offer for a Grand Slam record title, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 in two hours and 23 minutes.
Then, Alcaraz was followed to the final by Archirrival Sinner, who was forced to work hard for the 25th Canadian position Felix Auger-Aliassime before concluding a 6-1 victory, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the Court of the Arthur Ashe stadium.
It means that Alcaraz and Sinner will collide in a third consecutive final of Grand Slam this year on Sunday, where the president of the United States, Donald Trump, will be among a multitude of 23,000 to see the last installment of the exciting “Sincaraz” rivalry.
Alcaraz won the first meeting of the duo in an epic five -hour fight at the France Open in June before Sinner destroyed the Spanish in the final in Wimbledon the following month.
However, Alcaraz’s victory over Djokovic suggested that he is more than able to ambush Sinner in a match where the winner will be sure of the world number one ranking on Monday.
‘Beating Novak is special’
The five -year winner, 22, has not dropped a set on the road to the final, but still believes that he has a margin of improvement.
“Being Novak is always special. But I don’t feel that I won anything more than a Grand Slam semifinal,” Alcaraz said after knocking down Djokovic, 38.
“It was an important game, but it was just a ticket for the final.”
Djokovic said he plans to chase more great next year, but admitted that he was no longer physically capable of matching Alcaraz and Sinner.
“I am happy with my tennis level, but you know, it’s just physical,” Djokovic said after his departure. “That is something that, unfortunately, at this time in my career, I cannot control.”
Meanwhile, Sinner seemed to be preparing another victory of Fire Quickfire while running through the opening set of his clash with the rangoso Ageger-Aliassime.
But the Canadian was leveled by taking the second set only so that Sinner responds to claim the next two and one return to the final.
‘An incredible season’
Sinner, who also won the Australian Open in January, is now only the fourth man in history to reach the final of the four Grand Slams in a single season, joining an exclusive club whose other members are Rod Laver, Roger Federer and Djokovic.
“It has been an incredible season. The Grand Slams are the most important tournaments we have throughout the year,” Sinner said.
The date of Italian with Alcaraz is also a rematch of its famous 2022 US Open Quarter-Final Finter, which ended around 2:50 am and remains the last final in the history of the tournament.
“Sunday is a very special day and an incredible final again. I feel that our rivalry began here playing an incredible game,” Sinner said in a wink to his 2022 classic.
“Now we are two different players, with a different confidence. Let’s see what is coming. We have played a lot, we know each other very well.”
Meanwhile, Sunday’s final will have a rare visit from a president of the United States after confirmation on Friday that Trump plans to attend the masterpiece of tennis.
Trump’s visit, confirmed to AFP For a White House official, it is the last appearance of the American leader in an important sporting event after travel to the Super Bowl in February and the FIFA Club World Cup final in July.
“For me, playing in front of him … I will try not to think about it,” Alcaraz said about Trump’s presence. “I don’t want it to be nervous about that, but I think, attending the tennis party, it’s great for tennis to have the President (AT) the final.”
Today, the final of the female singles will be decided when the defending champion and the world number Aryna Sabalenka face the eighth seed American Amanda Anisimova.
In the women’s doubles on Friday, Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe won their second female double title of the US Open in three years after beating Taylor Towsend and Katerina Siniakova 6-4, 6-4.
