NEW DELHI: Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra On Wednesday he officially took over as commander of the Indian Air Force (IAF). Western Air Commanda critical position responsible for safeguarding India’s western borders.

A graduate of the National Defense Academy in Pune, his academic credentials include advanced training from the Air Force Test Pilot School in Bengaluru, the Air Command and Staff College in the United States and the Royal College of Defense Studies in the UK.

Air Marshal Mishra is both a combat fighter leader and an experimental test pilot. His career path includes several key appointments within the IAF, reflecting his diverse operational and strategic acumen. These roles range from commander of a fighter squadron to serving as chief test pilot at the Aircraft and Systems Test Establishment (ASTE). He also held command of two frontline air bases and played key roles as Director of Operational Planning and Assessment, Senior Director (ASR) and Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Projects) at Air Headquarters. In addition, he was commander of the ASTE and deputy chief of the Integrated Defense Staff (doctrine, organization and training).
Prior to this appointment, Air Marshal Mishra was serving as Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations), Integrated Defence.
The Western Air Command is one of the most strategically important formations of the IAF, tasked with defending the nation’s western border and providing operational support during conflicts.
