ADB appoints new DG for regional dept overseeing Pakistan engagement – Pakistan

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said on Monday that he appointed Leah Gutiérrez as general director of his Central and Western Asia Department, which supervises the commitment to Pakistan and another 10 countries.

The ADB is a key lender for Pakistan, with ongoing vital financing programs, together with the assistance in digital review and climate policy plans.

As general director, Gutiérrez will deliver the strategic Agenda of ADB in the Central and Western Asia region, which includes Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyn Republic, Tayikistan, Turkiye, Turkmenist and Uzbekistan.

His appointment enters into force today, read an ADB statement.

“I feel honored to serve in this position and I will continue to relate to the developing member countries and the interested parties to promote inclusive growth, regional cooperation and sustainable development throughout the region,” Gutierrez said.

Gutiérrez has more than four decades of professional experience, including 25 years in ADB, the statement said.

“Before its appointment, Gutiérrez was the general director of the Department of Sectors 3 of ADB, where she administered operations for finance, human and social development, and management and governance of the public sector.

“She is also former general director of the Pacific Department. She has held high -level positions in the Department of Strategy, Policy and Associations of ADB; Department of Southeast of Asia and the Secretary’s office,” said the statement.

Last October, the ADB appointed Xiaoqin fan as the new country director.

In June, Pakistan signed a financing of $ 1 billion for a five -year installation of multiple trancheras with the ADB. The same month, the Bank approved a $ 800 million program to strengthen fiscal sustainability and improve public financial management in Pakistan.
