Washington-Senator Adam Schiff, a Democrat of California, inspired on Tuesday in the nomination of Ed Martin, the organizer of “stop the robbery” and defender of the defendants of January 6 to whom President Donald Trump nominated to be Washington, the main federal prosecutor of DC permanently.
Trump called Martin, a loyal to Trump, as the interim prosecutor of the United States for the Columbia district on the day of the inauguration, and Martin quickly used the power of his office in a very political way: to launch investigations on prominent and degrading federal fiscal degraders who supervised the prosecutions of the defenders of January 6, some of which Martin himself represented.

“In every way, Ed Martin has demolished the Firewalls between the White House and his own office within the Department of Justice,” Schiff said in a statement. “Confirming it to permanently serve in the role that it has already abused in its intermediate capacity would cross the Rubicon Prosecutor’s Office that each senator would regret and threaten the rights of Americans in all areas of life.”
Putting control over a candidate avoids unanimous consent to proceed with the votes on the Senate floor. The majority part can still schedule a call vote for the nominee, although that eats more time on the floor.
More than 100 former federal prosecutors asked the Senate Judicial Committee to hold a confirmation hearing for Martin, saying that he lacked prosecuting experience and was not suitable for the position.
Martin did not respond to a request for comments.
Schiff said that Martin has been “openly threatening and intimidating political opponents, dismissing charges against their own clients, dismissing public servants for their roles in legitimate investigations and using their office as a Cudgel to relax dissent and freedom of expression.” He said Martin “embodies Donald Trump’s personal weapon from the Department of Justice” more than anyone else.
“With all the power they give me as senator of the United States, I intend to stop their nomination and block attempts to cross their appointment at each stage,” he added.
The White House did not immediately respond to a comment request Tuesday night on the control of Schiff and its comments.
