Police say that the man who allegedly killed and dismembered two people in Barrie, north of Toronto, this year once lived in the same camp as the victims, and the murders were attacked.
“What began as an investigation by the missing person in January of this year has become one of the greatest investigations that Barrie’s police have had,” said the sergeant. Brett Carlton at a press conference on Tuesday.
Robert Aporeouceur, 52, was arrested on August 2 with the help of the Provincial Police and now faces 33 criminal positions, said Carlton.
The charges include murder in the first and second degree, as well as two positions of indignity to a body. Ladouceur is also accused of firearms and drug trafficking crimes along with theft. He was denied the bond at an audience this month, said Carlton.
The police refused to explain how they believe that the defendant killed William “Blake” Robinson and David “Kyle” Cheesquay, or what his reason could have been.
Aporeouceur, Robinson and Cheesequay lived together at one point in a camp in a wooded area of Barrie located between Victoria Street, John Street and Anne Street S., police said.
Robinson was last heard in January, the same month that it is now believed that he was killed, while Cheesquay was reported as disappeared at the end of July, police said.
As part of the investigation, the officers registered several places, including the camp, a property in Huntsville, Ontario, and a residence in the North Simcoe County. They said they found the suspicious remains of the victims in the camp and in Huntsville.
Chief Richard Johnston told journalists on Tuesday that the police do not believe that there are suspicious or additional victims in the case.
“These were not random murder,” he said. “Incidents like this are shocking and understandably take our community, but they are extremely rare.”
He said that Autouceur had a criminal record and that he was known by the Police at the time of his arrest.
