Nueva Delhi: The member of the Trinamool Congress, Lok Sabha, Abhishek Banerjee, has written to President Om Birla on Wednesday that the response of the Minister of Electronics and information technology to his questions written in the Chamber, in the “demolition airs presented to social media platforms” was not “not satisfactory.”
When writing to the speaker Banerjee followed the rules of the chamber for which a member can write to the speaker if the member is not satisfied with the government’s answers to the questions raised on specific issues.
Banerje had wanted to know the government about (a) the number of Drunk warnings presented by several ministries to Social Network Platforms IE X (previously Twitter) and Meta during the last three years, in terms of ministry; (b) If the government has a complete list of these demolition notices, specifying for each submission date, the underlying reasons (such as hate discourse, erroneous information, defamation, etc.); (c) the current measures to review the results and impacts of these elimination notices; and (d) the way in which the government ensures that such actions conform to the constitutional protections of freedom of expression and due process?
Without providing specific answers to the questions, the Minister of State for Electronics and information technology, Jitin Prasada told Lok Sabha in a written response that “the notices for the elimination of any information on the intermediary platform are sent directly by the respective appropriate governments or their authorized agencies when the appropriate government can be the state and central government according to the seventh calendar to the Constitution.”
