NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday shared a satirical video on social media, comparing BJP’s Amit Shah with the protagonist of Bollywood film ‘Ghajini’, known for his short-term memory loss.
The video, which reimagines a scene from the film, accuses the BJP of forgetting its promises to the people, a jibe meant to highlight what the AAP alleges is the party’s failure to fulfill its commitments.
The video was part of the “Phir Laayenge Kejriwal“(Kejriwal will be brought back) campaign for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections.
Earlier on Monday, BJP leader Sambit Patra criticized AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal over the renovation of the Delhi CM’s official residence, which the party has repeatedly referred to as “Sheesh Mahal”, and said the cost of the tender was higher than estimated. making it a “scam in the first step itself.”
The “Sheesh Mahal” controversy centers on allegations that Arvind Kejriwal spent millions of rupees renovating his official residence during the Covid-19 pandemic, a period when many public development projects were stalled.
Talking about the ‘scam’, Patra said, “The CAG report says that on March 17, 2020, PWD of Delhi submitted a proposal to redevelop 6 Flag Staff Road. The single-storey building will have to be demolished and a additional new floor. The proposal was accepted within a day The estimated cost was Rs 7.61 million, however, the tender published by the government mentioned the amount as Rs 8.62 million. in the first step itself.”
He Delhi assembly elections is gaining strength, with the AAP, BJP and Congress locked in a fierce triangular contest.
The AAP and the Congress party, which fought together in the Delhi Lok Sabha polls, parted ways and decided to take on the BJP alone in the assembly elections.
The high-octane triangular political battle for the upcoming elections is expected to change the political fortunes of three major parties and several leaders.
Although the BJP has only named candidates for 29 seats and the Congress has also declared candidates for 48 seats. The ruling AAP has declared the list of all its candidates.
Several senior AAP officials, including party chief Arvind Kejriwal, current Delhi CM Atishi and former deputy CM Manish Sisodia, have their work cut out for them as the two opposition parties – BJP and Congress – name candidates from weight against him.
The most interesting contests will be held in the New Delhi assembly constituencyknown for the bungalows of top politicians, bureaucrats, judges and industrialists in Lutyens’ Delhi and where a large number of government officials stay. Former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is pitted against the sons of two former prime ministers.
The Congress has fielded Sheila Dikshit’s son Sandeep against Kejriwal, while the BJP has once again reposed faith in Sahib Singh Verma’s young and aggressive son Parvesh.
Amid a growing political tirade over the polls, the Election Commission is expected to declare the Delhi assembly election on Tuesday at 2 pm.
A new House must be formed through elections before February 23, when the term of the current 70-member assembly ends.
