An athlete from the 21 -year -old University of Kentucky was arrested and accused of hiding his dead baby, wrapped in a towel, in a garbage bag in a closet to hide the recent birth, police said.
Laken Ashlee Snelling, who a University spokeswoman said she was a senior and a member of the competitive acrobatics team of joy, is accused of hiding the birth of a baby, manipulating physical evidence and abuse of a corpse, according to a police appointment.
She was arrested on Sunday and hired at the Fayette County Detention Center, Lexington, Kentucky, police said in a statement.
It is not clear if Snelling has a lawyer. The State Public Defense Department, which provides some accused of legal representation, did not respond immediately to a request for information on Monday night.
The Lexington Police arrest appointment by Snelling, obtained by the NBC Wix affiliate from Lexington, the states officers were sent to their residence on Wednesday morning after receiving a report that a deceased baby was in a closet.
“The baby was located wrapped in a towel inside a black garbage bag,” says the appointment.
Police said Snelling agreed to be interviewed and told the officers that he had given birth and tried to hide the evidence of the birth.
The Fayette County Forensic Office is investigating the baby’s cause of death, police said.
