Negotiations with Afghanistan not domain of provincial govt: Amir Muqam – Pakistan

The federal minister of border states and regions, issues of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam said on Saturday that negotiations with Afghanistan fall out of the jurisdiction of the provincial government.

Islamabad has repeatedly transmitted its concerns to the Afghan government about the presence of terrorist outfits, including the Banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), within Afghanistan, saying that the militants have constantly used the Afghan soil to launch terrorist attacks within the territory Pakistani. Kabul denies the accusations.

Last month, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s prime minister Ali Amin Gandapur announced plans to send a delegation to Afghanistan for a dialogue on bilateral issues. This week, the provincial government said it would involve the men of cross -border tribes to stop militancy and guarantee regional peace.

“The negotiations with Afghanistan are not the domain of the provincial government, it is a federal issue,” Muqam said while appearing in the Dawn news program ‘Doosra Rukh‘On Saturday.

He clarified that if a province wishes to speak with a foreign nation, he should convey his request to the Federation. “If the province speaks in its own name, then who will implement [commitments made during the talks]? ” asked.

The minister continued: “In this way, Baluchistan will say tomorrow that they will talk to Iran, and Punjab will say that he shares a border with India, so they want to talk to them.

“Ali Amin Gandapur should not do this, it is not under his domain, he is a federal subject.”

Muqam then directed his attention to the negotiations between the PTI and the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). “What was the fate of the conversations they made before and what was the result?” asked.

When asked if the federal government was not confident before this statement by the main minister of the KP, he replied: “He always follows his whims, he acts as a king. The founder of PTI is like that, as well as the party, whatever the idea they have, continue about it. ”
