Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Thursday that the Government was ready to form a parliamentary committee to continue the conversations with the PTI against the lawsuit of the party to establish a judicial commission to investigate the protests of May 9, 2023 and 26 November 2024.
After more than a year of high tensions between the government and the PTI, the two parties began negotiations in the last week of December to reduce political temperatures. But despite the weeks of negotiations, the dialogue process was arrested on important issues: the formation of two judicial commissions and the release of PTI prisoners.
Last week, PTI decided to boycott the fourth round of conversations (which were scheduled to take place on January 28) with the government, one day after he announced that the founder of the Imran Khan party issued instructions to cancel the negotiations due to a Delay on the formation of judicial commissions.
Speaking today at a cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz said: “With respect to conversations with the PTI, we really accept its offer, we constitute a committee and start the dialogue with the help of the help of the help of the help of the [National Assembly] spokesman.”
“The committee asked the PTI to file its demands in writing and the government also agreed to present a written response,” he said. “A meeting was supposed to be called on this month, but they rejected the conversations and escaped.”
He also said: “Our members told them that the [government] He was ready to present a written response and invited them to return to the table again. “
The prime minister referred to the parliamentary committee formed in 2018 under the former government to finish the terms of reference (Tor) to investigate the accusations of electoral rig.
He said: “After the 2018 elections when [as the opposition] He entered Parliament while using black bands in protest, Imran Niazi (who was the prime minister at that time) told me that his government was forming a committee and that an exhaustive investigation would be carried out. “
Khan later announced the formation of a committee, said Prime Minister Shehbaz, adding: “In 2018, they (the PTI) made a Chamber Committee, not a judicial commission. They (the Government of that-PTI) offered the formation of a Chamber Committee and accepted it, but the committee only held one or two meetings. “
“We are ready to form a camera committee. The committee that was formed in 2018 must also complete its investigation, and a Chamber Committee must be formed to investigate the February 2024 elections to put the facts at the forefront. “
Regarding the protest of November 26, he said: “The protest carried out for them in 2014, a Chamber Committee should also investigate that, along with the protest of November 26”.
“Two are needed for tango. This dialogue should advance so that the country can progress, instead of having more damage due to its violent protests, ”said the prime minister.
