Chandigarh: The Special Court of CBI for Haryana in Panchkula on Wednesday sentenced three officials of the Department of Customs and Central Special Taxes after being guilty in a case of bribery registered against them.
The decision arose from the Court of Rajiv Goyal, the special judge of CBI, in the presence of the convicts identified as Anil Kumar and Ajay Kumar, the superintendents, and Ravinder Singh Dahiya, an inspector, who were published in the Department of Department of the Department of the Department Customs Audit and Special Central Wing in Sonipat.
According to the information, the trio demanded a bribe of RS 10 Lakh to solve a dispute that involves Deepak Jain, the owner of the PVT LTD precision component in the Rai industrial area of Sonipat. Meanwhile, Jain approached the CBI, and a trap was placed.
The three officials negotiated to reduce the bribe money to be paid in two installments, and Anil Kumar even demanded an expensive mobile phone. In particular, Jain faced a penalty of around RS 30 Lakh due to evasion due to double billing.
During the trap, the money recovered from the defendant’s car and, consequently, the court began his trial. In July 2017, the CBI presented a sheet of charges against them.
More interesting, during the course of the trial, the plaintiff Deepak Jain became hostile and gave a statement in favor of the accused. However, the court was based on documentary and circumstantial evidence.
“The Court appreciated the registered evidence and the arguments made by the Prosecutor’s Office in the case. Now, the court will announce the amount of its sentence on February 3,” said Harsh Mohan Singh, the main prosecutor of CBI.
