Nova Scotia RCMP have issued an emergency alert due to the presence of a man with a firearm in the area between Oldham Road and Rockcliffe Drive in Enfield.
The alert said police are responding, but residents have been told to stay inside and lock their doors.
Area residents told CBC News that police blocked Route 2 in Enfield from north of Big Stop to where the highway meets Highway 214 in Elmsdale.
RCMP described the suspect as having tattoos on his face and was wearing a light blue t-shirt and navy blue pants.
The suspect was last seen on foot, according to police, who asked the public not to give rides to anyone requesting one.
