The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) restored power supply to four housing projects in Bahria Town Lahore after the society’s management paid outstanding bills worth Rs 682 million.
“Power supply has been restored to four projects in Bahria Town, including the main Bahria Town near Mohlanwal,” a Lesco spokesperson said. Sunrise.
Power supply was suspended yesterday, drawing criticism from residents who also announced a protest rally in front of the Bahria Town offices after Friday prayers on the issue.
According to Lesco managing director Ramzan Butt, the last date for payment of bills was November 21, but it was extended to November 23 on the request of housing society officials.
After failing to pay, officials requested an extension of another day and continued to get more until Wednesday.
“Since the last date was November 27 (yesterday), supposedly instead of paying the bills, they approached the court. But before they could get the court decision, we disconnected power supply to four projects, including the main Bahria town (near Mohlanwal), which alone has dues of more than Rs 530 crore,” Butt told Sunrise.
In 2024, Lesco had offline power supply to Bahria Town over non-payment of over Rs 762 million in electricity bills.
The real estate company has also previously come under scrutiny for power issues. In June last year, dozens of residents of the Bahria Town operations in Islamabad required against overbilling and deductions by management on electricity generated by solar energy.
