Shangla police on Thursday sent a woman to a shelter in Darul Aman after expressing fear for her following a video of her that went viral on social media.
Aloch Police Station House Officer (SHO) Khurshid Ali said Sunrise that the woman contacted the station, stating that her life is at risk and that her family is plotting to kill her.
“We sent a team to the area and took the woman to the police station, where we recorded her statement,” SHO said.
He further said that the woman said a man filmed a video with her and posted it on social media, angering her family.
“She said in the statement that her family could kill her and asked for police protection,” SHO Ali said.
The officer added that the woman was produced before the magistrate on duty at the Chakesar courts, where, on his order, she was transferred to a shelter in Swat.
“We started working on the case and submitted it to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency,” SHO Ali added.
In response to a question, he explained that the suspect had fled the area, but expressed hope that he would be arrested with the help of the NCCIA.
“The woman was married to a man in a Puran village,” the SHO added. “However, due to domestic problems, she filed for divorce and the case is still ongoing.”
In September, a Karachi judicial magistrate sentenced a man to a total of six years in prison for creating fake Facebook accounts in his friend’s name and misusing them to share her inappropriate photographs in an attempt to blackmail her.
Judicial Magistrate (East) Yusra Ashfaq found Abdullah Saleem guilty of offenses under sections 20 (dignity of a natural person), 21 (modesty of a natural person and minor) and 24 (cyber harassment) of the Electronic Crime Prevention Law (Peca) 2016, and awarded him two years in prison for each charge.
