Security forces killed eight terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a statement from the army’s media wing said on Saturday.
The IBO took place on November 21, according to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) regarding the reported presence of khawarij belonging to Indian proxy Fitna-al-Khawarij.
Fitna-al-Khawarij is a term the state uses to refer to terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Arms and ammunition were also recovered from Indian-sponsored “khawarij”*, according to ISPR, “who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces, LEAs and in the killing of innocent civilians.”
“The operation underscores the strengthened collaborative efforts between [LEAs] and security forces, which have significantly stepped up intelligence-driven operations in the region,” ISPR said.
“These meticulously coordinated and synchronized security measures are designed to restrict the operational mobility of khawarij elements, systematically dismantle their facilitation networks and limit their ability to reorganize,” the statement underlines, adding that the operations are producing “substantial and measurable success” with continued efforts to achieve greater peace and stability.
“A clean-up operation is underway to remove any further Indian-sponsored events. khawariji found in the area, such as the relentless anti-terrorist campaign under the Azm-i-Istehkam vision (approved by the Federal Apex Committee on National Action Plan) by the security forces and [LEAs] “The Government of Pakistan will continue at full pace to eradicate the menace of foreign sponsored and supported terrorism from the country,” ISPR added.
Pakistan has witnessed a increase in terrorist activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan. Rising incidents followed banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan end a ceasefire with the government in November 2022 and vowed to attack security forces, police and LEA personnel.
Earlier today, a terrorist plot to blow up the Dawa Bridge in Basia Khel area of Bannu using an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was foiled.
Yesterday seven people were killed when, according to police, the peace committee office was attacked in Bannu. The police officers had said Sunrise One of those killed was a “good Taliban” (a term used to refer to a former militant who has surrendered to the State) and the rest were his relatives.
