Seoul, South Korea – North Korea carried out a strategic cruise missile test on Saturday, Kcna state media reported on Sunday.
The country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, supervised the test, according to the report, which described it as a fire test of an “important weapons system.”
The Submarine-Superficie strategic cruise missiles traveled 1,500 kilometers (around 932 miles) and flew between 7,507 and 7,511 seconds before reaching their objectives, Kcna reported.
In a separate report from the KCNA on Sunday, the North Korean Foreign Ministry promised the “toughest counterreaction” against the United States as long as Washington “rejects” the sovereignty of Pyongyang.
The Military Alliance and the joint exercises between South Korea and the United States were the culprit of the growing tensions in the region, the ministry said in a statement released by Kcna.
The statement came after the president of the United States, Donald Trump, said during an interview on Thursday that he would communicate with Kim again after both developed a working relationship during Trump’s first mandate.
North Korea’s war deterrence were “more thoroughly perfected,” Kim said, while the leader also promised to continue efforts to strengthen the army.
“Kim Jong one said that the RPDC will always make developed efforts … to fulfill its important mission and duty to defend sustainable and lasting peace and stability on the basis of a more powerfully developed military force in the future.”
The RPDC represents the official name of North Korea, Democratic Popular Republic of Korea.
In a statement later that day, the joint Staff of South Korea said that North Korea fired multiple cruise missiles from areas of the interior towater off the west coast around 4 pm local time (2 am et) of the Saturday.
The report said the missile test was part of plans to develop national defense capacities against potential enemies in line with changing regional security circumstances.
Earlier this month, the state media of North Korea also reported that Kim supervised a successful test of a new intermediate -reach hypersonic ballistic missile (IRBM).
