CBC News has confirmed that the newborn found at a bus stop in Longueuil, Que., has died.
Longueuil police spokeswoman Jacqueline Pierre told Radio-Canada that the baby was less than 28 days old.
On Monday morning, Longueuil police posted on social media that they found a baby at a bus stop on Chambly Road near Briggs Street.
The baby was found still attached to the placenta, naked and very cold, according to the Montérégie ambulance technicians cooperativethe paramedical service of the Montérégie region of Quebec.
At that time he was unconscious and resuscitation maneuvers were performed until the baby arrived at the hospital.
In a Facebook post, the Longueuil agglomeration police service (SPAL) said a 911 call was made around 6:30 a.m. Monday to report what appeared to be a baby at a bus stop.
SPAL added that first aid was immediately provided to the baby, who was taken to hospital.
In their post, police also said an operation is underway and asked the public to avoid the area. A command post was installed at the site.
As of 8 a.m., eastbound Briggs Street and northbound Chambly Road were closed to traffic.
Earlier this month, another newborn was found on the doorstep of a house on Bourgeoys Street in Longueuil.
The child was found wrapped in a blanket and with the umbilical cord still attached.
Hoping to find a person of interest in the case, police later released footage showing a person holding what appeared to be a baby in their arms as they walked along a sidewalk.
Police are still investigating the case and Pierre said the two events are not related.
