French Culture Minister Rachida Dati reported a theft at the Louvre in Paris on Sunday, as the world-renowned museum said it would close for the day.
“This morning there was a robbery at the opening of the Louvre Museum,” he wrote in X, using a French word that can also mean “robbery.”
“No injuries were reported. I am at the scene with museum staff and police,” he added.
At least one person had entered the museum, a member of his team said. AFPwithout adding anything about any possible theft.
The Louvre said it would close that day “for exceptional reasons.”
The museum was not immediately available for comment.
