A Frontier Corps (FC) hawaldar was martyred and an FC soldier was injured when a convoy of police and security forces was “attacked by terrorists” on the Miranshah highway in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, according to police.
Bannu police spokesperson Kashif Nawaz Khan confirmed these details to dawn.com.
He said an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in the area while a team of police and security personnel were carrying out a search operation, following which “terrorists attacked the security personnel with weapons”.
“The IED was planted near Baran Shah Bridge on Miranshah Road,” the spokesperson said, adding that “Hawaldar Dost Muhammad Khan was martyred and soldier Shamim Khan was injured in the incident.”
The spokesman said police and security personnel repelled the attack and “forced the terrorists to flee into the mountains.”
In addition, he stated that after the incident another search operation was launched in the area.
Four children injured
The police spokesperson also shared details of a quadcopter attack in which four children were injured.
Children were injured when a quadcopter crashed into a house in Khudri Mamand Khel area of Bannu this afternoon when a “quadcopter piloted by militants” crashed into a house in the area, he said.
“The injured children have been shifted to Bannu district central hospital for treatment and are now out of danger,” he added.
The spokesperson said all the children were from the same family and were between 8 and 13 years old.
