A police officer was martyred, while a border confidence officer (FC) was injured after a police control was attacked in Khyber’s Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police said Monday.
Recently, multiple KP areas, including Bannu, Peshawar, Karak, Lakki Marwat and Bajaur, have witnessed terrorist attacks, particularly attacked to police personnel.
Talking with Dawn.comKohat District Police Director (DPO), Dr. Zahydullah Khan, said a “large number of criminals” had attacked a check in Darra Adamkhel by Kohat “multiple sides” to 1 am
He said that then a fire exchange between the police and the unidentified assailants, who charged the life of a policeman and left an injured FC official. He said the exchange of fire continued for two and a half hours.
“The unknown assailants were aimed at capturing the check position, but their attempt was frustrated,” he said, added that a search operation was currently being carried out.
“So far three improvised explosive devices (FDI) have been recovered during the authorization operation,” said the DPO.
In a statement, the governor of KP, Faisal Karim Kundi, condemned the attack and paid tribute to the martyred police. He also prayed for the rapid recovery of the injured.
“Police sacrifices in the war against terrorism will not go in vain,” he added.
The attack comes a day after a soldier was martyred and another injured when the unknown assailants opened fire near the Bannu district of KP.
Pakistan has witnessed an increase in terrorist activities during the past year, especially in KP and Baluchistan, after the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) outlaw (TTP) ended the fire with the government with the government in November 2022 and promised to address the security forces, the police and other agencies of application of the law.
