A member of the BC conservative party personnel who called the Flag of Orange’s survivors, which honors the residential school survivors, a “misfortune” and a “false flag” on social networks has been fired.
Lindsay Shepherd, who had worked as a communications officer for the BC conservative Caucus, faced generalized criticism after his publications on the social media platform X at the end of last week.
Last Thursday, several MLA of the PND, conservatives and green raised the flag of the survivors in the front steps of the Legislature in Victoria, before the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.
The next day, Shepherd wrote on social networks: “The orange shirt and orange flag perpetuate falsehoods about Canadian history, as the most great lie of all 215 children’s tombs were discovered in Kamloop.
“It is a shame that this false flag flies in front of the buildings of the provincial Parliament, and it is a shame to see the shirt of framed lies framed prominently and permanently next to the shield of weapons so that the locals and tourists cannot see our badges without having the eye and redirected to the orange shirt,” the publication continued.
Shepherd eliminated the publication shortly after it was published, but Rohini Arora, NDP MLA, shared a screen screen for Burnaby East.
Arora said that the conservative Caucus did the right thing to shoot Shepherd and accredited the conservatives “who face intolerance within his group.”
“The extreme right -wing extremism is tolerated and even welcome in BC conservatives, until it becomes public,” he said in a statement.
On Wednesday, Shepherd said in X that BC conservative leader John Rustad had fired her due to the publication of social networks.
“I am the mother of two young children, and I have 32 weeks pregnant, I was about to go to maternity leave,” he wrote.
“He had been a chosen member of the party board since 2022,” he added. “It is very sad that you have finished this way.”
CBC News has communicated with the BC Conservative Party for a comment about this story.
‘Toxic behavior’
The great boss Stewart Phillip, president of the BC Indian bosses, had urged Rustad to fire Shepherd for the comments.
“It is shocking, it is absolutely unpleasant. It is surprising that there may be that level of ignorance on this modern day,” he said.
“The denial of the residential school is a terrible and racist disease that is given public expression with impunity in this province and in this country.”
The former BC Green Mla Adam Olsen, negotiator of the first Tartlip nation, described the comments “Vile”.
“This type of attacks against the true history of our province is really worrying. It is really toxic behavior,” said Olsen.
“I feel for all our relatives who confront these types of messages and that their whole story is questioned in such a petty way.”
In May 2021, the first nation of Tk’emlúps Te Secwépemc shared that the preliminary findings of a penetrating radar survey found about 200 potential tombs without marking in the fields of the old residential school of India Kamloop.
That announcement was the beginning of a national movement since the first nations throughout the country began their own searches in places of residential schools and many non -indigenous Canadians began to understand the importance of the damages perpetrated in those institutions.
