The members of the Association of Parliamentary Reporters of Pakistan (PRA) organized on Monday a mass strike of a session of the National Assembly, on the senior journalist Ijaz Ahmed allegedly subjected to poor behavior by the founder of PTI Imran Khan.
According to Ahmed, who spoke with Dawn.comThe strike was organized by the Electoral Committee of Pra Pakistan.
“[The] The founder of PTI launched the abuse to ask questions, ”said Ahmed.
The president of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, ordered the Minister of Law Azam Nazeer Tarar to hold conversations with Pra. During the strike, the speaker pointed out that PRA filed a complaint in writing on the subject, which Tarar spoke during his direction.
Later, the National Assembly published images of Ahmed’s meeting with President Sadiq in his office.
“It is your right (reporters) to protest and politics and journalism have a deep relationship,” said the minister, requesting that journalists listen to what he has to say. “You have a valid complaint.”
“A main member of the PRA was involved in a verbal altercation in Adial’s prison with a high -level leader who threw a fault language,” said the Minister of Law, not to mention the founder of PTI by name.
“It is the work of reporters and journalists criticize and show us our reflection in the mirror. We should take these criticisms seriously and not silence or attack them.”
Tarar said that Ahmed requested permission from the speaker’s office to speak with Imran in Adiala and requested protection.
“After the discussion and the way in which he (Ahmed) was abused, there was an attack of the social networks that attacked him,” Tarar added. “The publications said ‘look at this man’s face’, ‘Don’t forgive him’ and ‘Look what he said about our Quaid‘.
“This is a distinguished house and I must request that we behave democratically,” he said. “We need to demonstrate through our own attitudes that we listen to other people and that there is space for decency and politics in this house.”
PPP legislator Shazia Marri, said in her direction that Ahmed is a renowned journalist in Islamabad and has links to Sindh.
“In terms of his reports, he is a decent journalist,” he said. “We can have differences of opinion, but in terms of his reports and ethics, he is commendable.”
Marri added that journalists expose problems that affect the country and face problems while doing so. She also condemned the people who published Ahmed’s face on social networks and “making him a hate goal.”
“We continue to say that they criticize politicians, but we criticize ourselves for not protecting journalists. Why do we forget to offer them protection?”
After a break, Ahmed himself spoke on the floor of the house and said he had gone to Adiala’s jail at the request of the speaker and heard Khan about his treatment in the Adiala prison.
“We told him we would talk about this on the floor of the house,” said Ahmed.
“He (Imran) had two demands: the first is that Ahmed talks about how no PTI member was part of an opposition delegation to visit him in jail. The other was that he wanted an approved resolution about this incident.”
Imran also demanded that the Sindh government launch a “high -level investigation” about the murder of the presenter Imtiaz Mir.
Muttahida Qaumi (MQM) MNA Syed Aminul Haque, who was part of the delegation, claimed that Imran threatened threats and missing language in Ahmed.
“Immediately afterwards, we saw that it was trolled in social and digital media,” said MQM, added that the MQM condemned the incident. “People tried to obtain their direction and threaten their family. Journalists have the right to ask questions. People are not answering, but threatening them and being rude are anti -democratic.”
A resolution was presented before the camera condemned verbal altercation and claimed that Imran not only used a hard language, but also launched a social media campaign against Ahmed and other senior journalists.
He demanded that Ahmed and other journalists receive immediate protection, legal measures are taken against those responsible and also condemned Mir’s murder in Karachi, demanding an investigation into the shooting.
However, the president of the PTI, the lawyer Gohar Ali Khan, requested that the resolution does not occur because “the atmosphere of the house would ruin.”
“We have paid tribute to the media; they have played a key role in highlighting our struggles and raising their voices for people,” he said. “I couldn’t know [Imran] Khan SahibSo I wanted to know what happened. I reached three of his (Pra) people.
“A limited number of people in Adiala prison is allowed,” he added. “We don’t know the exact words he used. We don’t know what happened, we don’t even know what happens during jail tests.”
The resolution was adopted after a vote, however, boo and shouts were heard in the camera.
“If you are saying no, does that mean you are saying that what happened with Ijaz Ahmed was right?” Sadiq’s speaker asked after the resolution was approved.
Tarar took the floor once again, stating that he is one of those who has always tried to ensure that there is no pressure on the media.
“We listen to what the president of PTI said and we will not say anything distressing, but a journalist came and spoke in Parliament saying that he was called a” agent, “he said. “We need to see how people who raise their voices are.”
Imran, imprisoned since August 2023, is complying with a sentence in the Adial prison in the case of corruption of £ 190 million and also faces pending essays in the cases of May 9 under the anti -terrorist law.
