ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) will meet tomorrow (Thursday) to discuss the candidates to be appointed judges of the Sindh High Court (SHC).
The commission will consider 46 candidates competing for 12 vacant positions. The list included four candidates: two lawyers and two district and sessions judges (DSJ).
The JCP will consider the overall performance of all candidates. However, at a recent meeting to appoint Islamabad High Court judges, the commission examined the overall performance of the candidates, focusing on their case resolution rate.
Among the prominent candidates is DSJ Tasneem Sultana, number 2 in the seniority list of SHC’s subordinate judiciary. She joined the judicial service on April 28, 1994 and her retirement age is May 14, 2026. She was promoted to the position of DSJ on February 9, 2012 and is currently awaiting assignment.
Previously, he served as an accountability judge where he handled three referrals, 21 bail applications, six miscellaneous criminal applications and three investigations.
Another DSJ, Munawar Sultana, is fifth in the seniority list. She joined judicial service on July 13, 2005 and was promoted to session judge on July 15, 2013. She will attain retirement age on December 6 this year. He is currently working as a sessions judge in Khairpur, where he delivered 931 sentences in three years.
Umaimah Anwar Khan, daughter of former Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan, also aspires to become an SHC judge.
She has an LLB degree from the University of Sussex and was called to Lincolns Inn as a solicitor.
Shazia Hanjra, another lawyer, served as special prosecutor in the Baldia Town factory fire case. He later disassociated himself from the case due to alleged lack of cooperation on the part of the local police.
