The wife of the outstanding conservative activist Charlie Kirk said Friday that her husband was a good man who wanted to be remembered for his courage and faith, promising that his movement will continue.
Speaking for the first time publicly since her husband was a deadly shot on Wednesday during an oratory event at the University of Utah Valley, Erika Kirk described those of the evil responsible.
“The malefactors responsible for the murder of my husband have no idea what they have done,” he said. “They killed Charlie because he preached a message of patriotism, faith and the merciful love of God.”
“If you thought my husband’s mission was powerful before, you have no idea,” he continued. “You have no idea what you have only unleashed throughout this country and this world. You have no idea. You have no idea of the fire that you have lit inside this wife. The screams of this widow will resonate throughout the world as a shout of battle.”
Charlie Kirk, 31, was deadly shot in the neck with a rifle shot from a roof during the event at Orem University.
The authorities believe that the suspect, a 22 -year -old Utah resident, acted alone, said Utah governor Spencer Cox.
Erika Kirk spoke on video with the title “The beloved wife of Charlie Kirk, Mrs. Erika Kirk goes to the nation”, which was shown in the social media pages of Turning Point USA, the group that her husband co -founded.
She thanked the agents of the law whose efforts led to the arrest of the suspect and the first to respond that, according to her, they worked heroically to try to save her husband’s life.
She said of Charlie Kirk: “He was the perfect father, he was the perfect husband.”
“Never, I will never have the words to describe the loss I feel in my heart,” he said. “Honestly, I have no idea what something of this means. I know that God does, but I don’t.”
The suspect, Tyler Robinson, was arrested Friday at Washington County.
Robinson’s father communicated with a family friend who contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s office, who later notified other officials, according to two senior officials in charge of enforcing the law reported on the investigation.
The Sheriff’s office contacted the Utah County Sheriff, where the murder occurred, and Robinson delivered and arrested, said Utah Public Security Commissioner Beau Mason.
Mason said he believes that researchers would have tracked Robinson even if he had not surrendered.
“I have no idea what his mentality was, why he gave himself,” Mason said. “With what I can talk, I am sure that the process we were using, the potential customers we were developing and the information that was coming, we would have stopped it.”
Kirk’s murder was received with a furious condemnation, even by President Donald Trump. The murder caused questions about the nature of political discourse, including online where some who did not agree with Kirk celebrated their murder, and others on the right asked “civil war.”
Trump said Thursday that he will posthumously grant Kirk the presidential medal of La Libertad.
Erika Kirk thanked Trump on Friday, Vice President JD Vance and the second lady Usha Vance. She said JD Vance was a dear friend of her husband. Charlie Kirk was a nearby ally of Trump and played an influential role in helping Vance ascend in national politics.
Charlie Kirk was the father of two young children. His wife said that Thursday night, his 3 -year -old daughter asked: “Where is Dad?”
“How do you tell a 3 -year -old girl? He is three years old,” he said. “I said baby, Dad loves you a lot. Don’t worry, he’s on a work trip with Jesus so he can pay your blueberry budget.”
She said Turning Point USA and the Radio program and the Podcast of Charlie Kirk will continue, and that a tour of the autumn campus will continue. She said her heart was with her husband’s employees “who lost a friend and a mentor.”
“My husband’s mission will not end, not even for a moment,” said Erika Kirk.
