President Zardari arrives in China to kick off 10-day visit – Pakistan

President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in Chengdu on Friday to begin his official visit of 10 days to China, where he will hold meetings with Chinese leadership on different topics, including regional peace and the Economic Corridor of China-Pakistan (CPEC).

A statement issued today from the president’s secretariat said it was received by the Vice President of Foreign Affairs Sun Weidong and the Vice Governor of Sichaun, Huang Ruixue, when arriving at the Chengdu Shuanggliu International Airport.

Pakistan ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi and Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong were also present to welcome President Zardari.

“During the visit, the president will hold meetings with Chinese leadership and senior officials to further strengthen Pakistan-China, improve cooperation in various fields and advance shared objectives under the strategic cooperative association for all climate,” said the statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO) had said that the president would visit Chengdu, Shanghai and Xinjiang to hold meetings with the provincial leadership.

He said that discussions would cover bilateral relations, with a particular approach to economic and commercial cooperation, CPEC and future connectivity initiatives. The two parties would also exchange points of view on bilateral cooperation in multilateral forums.

The FO said the visit underlined the tradition of high -level exchanges between Pakistan and China, which reflects the deep commitment of the two countries to strengthen their relations.
