A high -level Iraq delegation on Friday reaffirmed the commitment to improve bilateral cooperation in the field of border management, according to a press release from the Federal Research Agency (FIA).
FIA is a border control agency that plays an important role in the prevention of illegal immigration and human trafficking. His offensive against human smuggers intensified after the capsization of a boat that transports illegal immigrants near Greece in December last year.
During a visit to the FIA headquarters in Islamabad, the delegation was welcomed by the additional director of the FIA, Jan Muhammad, and received an “complete” informative session on Pakistan’s border management practices.
The head of the Iraqi delegation “reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to further strengthen cooperation between the border management agencies of both countries,” said the press release.
The informative session included an overview of the FIA mandate and the work of the specialized units of the FIA. “In the Risk Analysis Unit (RAU), the director [of] Immigration explained how intelligence -led risk management is being applied to identify and mitigate threats at Pakistan’s borders, “he said.
The delegation visited the Forensic Laboratory, where the “crucial role of the laboratory was highlighted in the verification of travel documents, falsification detection and support for litigation in crimes related to trips.” He also visited the Islamabad International Airport for “witnesses first hand of the improvements made under the next generation border control systems of the FIA.”
The delegation received detailed information on the role of the FIA Academy in the development of its staff and on the operations of second -line border control to detect fraudulent travel documents and support the frontline officers.
The visit was facilitated by the International Center for the Development of Migration Policies (ICMPD) under the framework of a border management project based on rights funded by the Danish, according to the press release.
Earlier this week, the FIA arrested 14 suspects, including four Iranian citizens, in Baluchistan during separate operations aimed at human smuggling networks.
In January, 65 FIA officials were included in the blacklist to publish in any immigration control circles and antihuman traffic circles in the country after an investigation into the tragedy of the Greece ship.
